Position
The main purpose of the role long term is to lead the Flavour Creation team in SEA and also drive sales in the SEA organization through original creation of innovative winning flavours & excellence in matching capability across a wide range of flavour types and ideally across a number of flavour categories. The role also oversees the management of the promotional Library of flavours both developed in Singapore as well as in other locations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational;
- Develop from scratch creative and innovative food and beverage Flavours across a broad range of Flavour Types aligned with business needs for the Singapore & South East Asia customer base
- Ensure alignment and thorough understanding of flavour needs with sales, marketing & product management
- Support sales, product management & Marketing activities through his/her Flavour Expertise
- Develop Technical to technical relationships with customers and participate to customers' visits
- Lead the Flavour creation team in SEA and provide guidance and coaching to the team.
- Works closely with other functions including applications, sensory, quality, & regulatory as well as manufacturing & purchasing, especially as the flavours are initially not manufactured in Singapore
- Technical coordination of top tier accounts and global accounts
- Manages all types of projects of all levels of difficulty
- Cooperate with the Local Application Manager on the specific flavours or flavour systems for the applications, evaluate the flavours and the finished products as appropriate.
- Diligent in the implementation of all company policies requirements including reporting, compliance, training and other items as assigned by Management.
Creation:
- Develop new innovative and differentiating creative Flavours
- Work with R&I to develop innovative Raw Materials
- Resolve complex Flavour formulation challenges
- Develops replacements for extinct materials /ensures integrity of formulas with new mat
- Participate in Vendor´s presentations to identify and select innovative Raw materials
- Ensure the cost effectiveness of existing flavours and participate in developing a rationalized tool box adequate for winning with the market;
- Apply efficiently and effectively our end to end creative processes and tools follow good lab & formulation practices
Formula administration:
- Follows basic GMP, ISO procedures, GLP GFP, safety, lab notebooks and or other electronic record keeping tools
- Validate formulas and provide support to junior Flavourists in ensuring full compliance with good lab & formulation practices
- Propose Raw Materials for Introduction and follow up Raw material introduction process
- Adapt and optimize formulas as needed
- Support Product transfer Process by adapting formulas to local requirements
Required Skills and Experiences
- Science degree and preferably Chemistry/food science
- At least 15 years’ experience as Flavourist with a major Flavour House
- Proven development of successful innovative and complex Flavours across categories and types
- Ideally the candidate would have flavour Systems approach experience which means formulating/designing and supporting the entire beverage formulations which may be supplied without the water, sugar, and acids.
- Full working Flavour Raw Materials knowledge, Flavour chemistry, flavour creation & composition
- Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and their application properties (liquids, Spray Dry, compacting, thermal process flavourings, emulsions, encapsulation)
- Familiarity with Flavour creative IT tools
- The person needs to be strong in sweet, beverage & dairy flavours. Expertise in Citrus is an advantage.
- Experience in leading a team is an advantage

- Competitive and a self-starter - a leader rather than a follower.
- The person needs to have the drive and resilience and is willing to work in an organization that does not have local production.
- Respected in the South East Asia Food industry as a key flavourist, who can as such accelerate the process for the company in South East Asia to become part of the preferred flavour supplier list.
